Dear Eugene. I am checking the sources you kindly sent to me. No, I don't think he was in the civil War. He would only have been 16 when it started.Anyway, the info I have (tho' it is very little) suggest John Ware was on a plantation owned by a man named Chauncey until 1866 or 1867 when he was 22. He then traveled to texas and worked on a ranch owned by the Blandon family outside Fort Worth, until 1879, when he joined a trail ride taking 2,400 longhorns to Missouri.
He, of course ended up here, in Canada in 1882.
Eugene, I really appreciate you contacting me and I will certainly keep you up-to-date with my findings.
