In the name of God, I, WILLIAM SHERROD, of the county of Northampton, in the state of North Carolina, being of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to almightly God, for the same, and calling to mind the mortality that attends my body, and it is appointed to all men to die, do make and constitute and ordain this to be my Last will and testament, in manner and form following, to wit:.
First of all, I commend my soul into the hands of almighty God, that gave it, hoping through the merits death and passion of my savior Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon and remission of my sins and my body I commit to the earth to be buried in a decent and christian like manner, at the discretion of my executors, here after named, and as to such worldly estate as it hath pleased almightly God to bestow upon me, I give and bequeath in manner and form following to viz; Item; First of all my will and desire is that all my debts and funeral charges shall be paid and discharged..
I give and bequeath unto my son, JOEL SHERROD, that deed of land that I bought of ARTHUR WILLIAM, lying on the South side of Kirby Creek, containing one hundred and twenty five acres more or less, and dated the 30th. day of September 1768, if my wife should die or marry, I give unto my son, JOEL SHERROD, my negro wench named Amy, and in case she should have any increase more than I have already given away, I leave to be equally devided between my son JOEL and ARTHUR by appraisment..
I also give and bequeath unto my son, BENJAMIN SHERROD, that deed of land lying on the South side of the Little Swamp, containing one hundred and ten acres more or less. dated the 6th. day of January 1757, I also bequeath unto my son BENJAMIN SHERROD, my young horse named Bradick, and one feather bed and furniture and one cow, and calf and heifer..
I give unto my beloved wife, KEJIAH SHERROD, my Ball Face Horse, I also lend my wife, KEJIAH SHERROD, the plantation, whereon I now live, during her widowhood. I lend to my wife one negro boy named Jim, during her natural life, one feather bed and furniture, I also lend my wife, KEJIAH SHERROD, during her widowhood, all my stock of cattle and sheep and hogs, except these I have already given away. I lend unto my wife, my negro wench named Amy, one negro girl named Silvy, one negro boy named Jonas, and all my plantation working tools, such as plows, axes, and hoes. I also lend unto my wife the household furniture during her widow hood. Also my will and desire is that my poor old MOTHER, MARY SHERROD, may have a support during her life in part that I have lend my wife..
I give unto my son ARTHUR SHERROD, two hundred acres of land adjoining my plantation, called the "GUM LOG", if my wife should die or marry, I give the land and plantation where on I now live, including the whole 406 acres, more or less, beginning at a white Oak, standing on the North Side of "Kirby Creek", on a line of marked Oak Trees, to Northamption Court House Road, up the said road to the little swamp, down the said swamp to the mouth, then down the said Kirby Creek to the first station..
I also give and bequeath unto my son, ARTHUR SHERROD, one feather bed and furniture, and after my wife's death, I give unto my son, ARTHUR ,a negro boy named Jim, also my feather bed, that I lend my wife after her death. And if my wife should marry, I leave all my estate that I lend my wife, whatsoever, that I have not already given away, to be equally devided between my wife and three sons, JOEL SHERROD, BENJAMIN SHERROD and ARTHUR SHERROD, I do hereby constitute and appoint, my three sons, JOEL SHERROD, BENJAMIN and ARTHUR SHERROD, sole executors of this my last will and testament, I do hereby revoke, disannul and void, all other wills and testaments by me heretofore made and acknowledge this to be my last will, in witness thereof I have set my hand and seal this, Fourteenth day of September in the year of our Lord 1787, signed, WILLIAM SHERROD, Signed, sealed and deliverd, in presence of; ALEX BANKS, CHRISTOPHER COOK, Wm. FRANKLYN, Nothampton, September Court 1788, This Will approved by; CHRIS COOK, and BENJAMIN SHERROD, qualified.
