Here are some notes from my database that I'm posting in case anyone else is looking:

This is summarized information from "A General History of the Gudger Family With a Sketch of James Mcree, D.D, and Family and the Cruser Line" by Maurice Cable and Sue Cable:"Rev. Dr. James McRee was a graduate of Princeton College, New Jersey, was pastor of the Steel Creek Presbyterian Church, and then Center Church in Iredell County. He went to the Swannanoa settlement in 1830 when he retired, to live with his two daughters, Rachel Gudger and Martha Davidson. He preached at many area Presbyterian Churches during this period until his death in 1840.He is buried at the Piney Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Bee Tree Road, Swannanoa, NC.His grave is marked by a monument in the Davidson plot."

On a recent visit to PGPC, in October 1999, I located this monument. It reads:"For many years pastor of Swannanoa Presbyterian Church"------"Remember them that had the rule over you, which spake unto you the word of God, and considering the issue of their life, imitate their faith."
