2008 Fisher Family Reunion
FISHER FAMILY REUNION
The 84th annual Fisher Family Reunion will take place on 6 September 2008 at Lake Toxaway Baptist Church (Toxaway Lakeside) in Lake Toxaway, Transylvania County, NC. This reunion, for the descendants of James Washington Fisher, SR (RW), has been held in the same location since 1924. The business meeting and program will begin at 10:30 a.m. consisting of some family history, election of officers, genealogy update, bluegrass music, recognition of families, two speakers from the Sons of Confederate Veterans, an offering for the upkeep of the cemetery grounds and tombstones, and then close with a blessing for the food. Lunch will begin shortly after. Please bring a covered dish or two, family photos, family memorabilia, a couple of lawn chairs, and a thirst for knowledge of the family.
An exciting program has been planned for this year including two Southern Cross of Honor ceremonies to honor 11 Confederate States of America soldiers at Lake Toxaway Baptist Church and at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lake Toxaway, NC. The following men are to be honored: Benjamin Watkins Breedlove, Elijah Dill, and John Fisher at Lake Toxaway Baptist Church at 1:30 p.m.; and, Alfred Lambert Cantrell, Benjamin Perry Fisher, George Calor Galloway, George Washington Henderson, Isaac Crockett Jones, Henry Clay Raines, Robert Garren Smith, and Mansel Canada Thomas at Oak Grove Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. There will also be an evening gathering at the Lake Toxaway Community Center (small) on Slick Fisher Road (off of NC Hwy 281 N) in Lake Toxaway from 5:00 p.m. to about 10:00 p.m. Just bring your leftovers, photo albums, and etc. for another round of eat and meet while the family gets to know one another better!
The Lake Toxaway Baptist Church is located off of U.S. Hwy 64 on Lake Toxaway Church Road approximately .1 mile west of the Toxaway Falls bridge or approximately .2 miles east of the Toxaway Health Center. Oak Grove Baptist Church is located on Kim Miller Road off of US Hwy 64 approximately 5 miles east of Lake Toxaway Baptist Church.
