This site has indexed several census record and basically has a wealth of information on Calumet.I took the general records from a census there and then... since I subscribe to the census records at genealogy.com (20$/mo. or $99/year) I slowly looked up the people listed there.The best investment that I've made recently was subscribing to the census records.I've found soooooo many fascinating records with it!The only negative aspect is that many of the census years are not indexed so you have to literally go through and view hundreds of pages of information, especially if you have no idea what state, county, town, etc. that your ancestor is located.
I did a couple quick searches on your guys and there were only 12 John Ellenbeckers indexed in census records, so he should be fairly easy to narrow down, but there were 281 John Schillings.You'll have a lot of fun with that name ha ha...
