Kathy,
If you're still looking for Helen's maiden name and if you haven't done so already, you may want to get a copy of any of their children's marriage return.It "should" give both parents names, including Helen's maiden name.
If that doesn't work and any of their children registered for Social Security, you may want to request a copy of one of the children's SS-5.This original application WILL contain the maiden name of the mother (if known.)
Also, if you know the specific neighborhood that they lived in during this time, it might be possible to narrow down the nearby churches that they may have been married at.Writing to these churches (and enclosing a small donation) may turn up a marriage.
