Re: What location, culture is Aalsleth from?
I came across your message and thought I would answer it here, so you and anyone else who wants to know, has the information I have.
First, about my connection to the name.My mother's maiden name was Aalseth, and her family was in Seargent Bluff, Iowa. Her father was Donald Aalseth, and his father was Anothony Ole Aalseth.
The Aalseth name is Norweigan. Some of the stories I have heard are that the Aalseth name actually was assigned to the family when they immigrated to the U.S.This is because there is a town called Alset, just outside of Oslo.We have not yet been able to prove this to be true, and are hoping to find documentation sometime (i.e., naturalization papers, etc.) that can confirm or deny this.
A number of Norweigans settled in the Seargent Bluff, IA area, which back then was known by another name, as they became their own settlement.I will have to check again on what it was.....I believe it started with a "W" or an "H".
I hope this small amount of information can help someone. Please do not hesitate in contacting me to discuss this further.I am hitting alot of brick walls on all sides of my family.
