I'm a South African, rather than Australian Abbey but I think we might possibly be related, as my family went to the 4 corners of the globe. My father was Edward John Abbey, son of George Abbey and Eliza Jane Scotson. He was born in Orenburg, Russia in March 1917, just before the revolution. My grandfather (who was the oldest) had two sisters, Lucy Abbey Welch (born 17.10.1892 - who lived and died in Maryland, USA - I think) and Elsie, who was a spinster and lived in the English Midlands. There were 3 brothers, Arthur, Alfred & Eddie. As far as I know, Eddie went to America, Arthur lived in Stourbridge in the Midlands and I don't know what happened to Alfred. My great-grandfather was John Abbey and he had a sister Mary Pollock, and at least two brothers, Walter and George.I cannot be 100% sure of names as it was very difficult to get my grandfather to talk about his family and my grandmother had disappeared when my father was still a boy. I think my family had some connection with a town called Selby in Yorkshire but they had lived in Russia for some time up to the Revolution. They were educated in England and seemed to have had English wives, although photographs I have of them in Russia, appear to indicate otherwise. There was always talk of an Austrian great aunt. If this means anything to anyone, I'd love to hear from you.
