My service record of William is brief. According to my records William and at least two sons served in the American Revolution. The brief information I have on William comes from the State of South Carolina, Office of Historical commission.
"I hereby certify that the entry to the stub to indents #10 of Book K of indents issued by the state growing out of the war of the Revolution, shows that said indent for L18.10.4 was issued to William Abbott, August 31, 1784 in payment of his claims for provisions furnished to the Continental Troops and for fifty-nine days deuty rendered in Marion's Brigade of the Militia of South Carolina, in 1782, that said book of stubs in indents is in file and of record in this office, which is a department of the executive branch of government of South Carolina."
Given under my hand and seal this 14th day of June 1912.

It is believed that John Abbott served his entire time with Marion's Brigade. Perhaps this was the reason William was connected with Marion in his service record. John enlisted in the Second South Carolina Regiment, under Lt. Francis Marion, on November 11, 1776, at the age of 14 years. Upon John's death the newspaper listed him as Captain John Abbott. Not sure if this title was earned or honorary.
My line comes through Simpson Abbott, son of John. Which child of John and Mary Abbott does your lineage come?
