My records indicate that William Abbott was the son of Walter Abbott and that he was born in 1740 in Free, Ireland and died in 1819 in West Union, Oconee County, S.C.
My records show that William served in the American Revolution-Abberville District, South Carolina.I have that he joined the S.C. Militia in 1778 and served under Captain James Clark and Colonel Singleton and marched to Augusta.Later, it was said that he joined General Marion after he was threatened to be hung from his door post by torries. He served 8 months and 14 days under General Armstrong and Richard Singleton.
Wm. Abbott's estate was settled in 1819 by Sarah Dennard Abbott and her children.
I also have in my records indications that Wm. and his wife Sarah owned a 455 acre plantation in 1803, located on Island Creek near the town of Mayo and a short distance from the town of Chesnee just north of Spartanburg, South Carolina
