Hi, I hope it is not to late to join this discussion.
I was reading the "Giles County, Virginia History - Families" book and was very confused to say the least. There is an excerpt from a letter written by Henly Chapman on pg 225 under the heading "Chapman Settlers".It mentions that Richard Abbott died and his widow married a Tracy who was the father of William Tracy, who lived on Wolf Creek.
There is also another section of this book dedicated to Richard Chapman, who was the husband of Richard Abbotts daughter Margaret.Under the heading of "Richard Chapman" on page 10 it states "After Richard died his widow married a man by the name of Tracey. They had two children: 1) Bertie married James Rowe 2) William , the ancestors of Tracys on Wolf Creek of New River." (the source was from "A History of Middle New River Settlements and Contiguous Territory" by David E. Johnston 1905 & reprinted 1960 & 1982.)
The statement on pg. 10, I believe is wrong in saying that Margaret Abbott married a Tracey....the time line would be too far off the mark. But it does however give the names of the 2 children.Although on pg 225, it only states that This man surname Tracy was the father of William Tracy of Wolf Creek, but it does not clarify that Richard Abbotts widow was their mother. The way it reads, Ms. Abbott may have married Mr. Tracy who already had a son named William.
