I am trying to find Benjamin Franklin Abbott b. 1812 m. Caroline Pickett Willis. My direct line. After 25 years plus, I am now going to look in IL.
It is easy to dismiss my info, as nobody seems to tie directly to the Abbott family that I am trying to find. But I can tell you, that I have broken many brick walls in associated lines for a lot of people, while finding nothing on my little group. What it has done, is given me a very broad perspective of these groups that others are researching and how they connect.
I admit, I am not the best documenting researcher out there, but what I am really good at is remembering names and associations. I have found connections to all of these Abbotts that everyone is tracking, and could sure use another "big picture" researcher to help or who can see what I am seeing.
I DO connect to the Wilburn/Wilborne Abbott line, through a Weems cousin.
My William Augusta Abbott, son of Benjamin, married Nancy Jane Weems, first cousin to Nancy Weems in Letsy Weems/Wilburn Abbott line.
I DO connect to the Cato Abbott line at his wife, Euphrasia Carter. FYI, everyone has him as Cato, but his full name is Lester B. Cato Abbott. This is the Pres. Jimmie Carter line, as well. And I believe Lester is a surname. AND this is a Walker Co., AL person and groups.
I DO have Copeland connections to Abbott will Key/Millstead, etc. to Francis Scott Key, and Moss family.
I DO have Williams connections to Alumbee Williams in San Saba, TX. with Abbott/Faver/Weems line.
I am a direct descendant of these lines below and most are out of NC, including Dunns that also go through Walker Co., AL, like most of the lines everyone is researching.
Joel Lane m. Mary Hinton and Martha Hinton (NC) which is the Carter lines above mentioned.
I descend from Warner/Willis, direct descents from the father of George Washington, and also from the president's aunt. These are the Willies of VA, Col. Henry Willis.
I am direct descendant of Willoughby Todd, i.e. Mary Todd Lincoln lines.
I am direct descendant of Sarah Miller and Adam Lawrence, the Capt. Simon Miller lines (which also include Triplett.Miller/French and George R. Reade, Esq.
My mother is a descends from Eleanor Plantagenet, and my father from Joan Plantagenet.
So, basically, if someone is out there, and you have an open mind, want to tell me where you come in, I can help. The more info on these Abbotts I get, the closer I come to finding my line, but I am tracking all of the Abbott lines, and collect tons of notes.
The Dunns of Walker Co., AL, I am seeing merge into NC lines to Whitakers and other groups of NC, and AL groups that tie to TX family groups, huge groups.
This includes the Jordan Avner lines to OK, which tie to the Triplett (Wroe/Shepherd/Teague/Miller/Lawrence/Haynes, etc.) If someone is looing for this Jordan/Jourdan Abbott in K, there is a book by Gunderson on the Abbotts there.
FYI...Find-A-Grave has really grown, and I am solving mysteries there, one after another.
If we all try to go in and ask for links it is, so to speak "the final resting place" online. If groups contribute, it will link us and bring a really great understanding of migration, marriages, etc.
AND, less duplicates, and places to search. It is/can be the easiest way to find ancestors, I think.
You will have a great time going to the virtual cemetery listing of the Alamo, and probably San Jacinto (though I haven't checked yet). Many of my associated families fought in these Battles, as did lots of other researcher's.
Just putting this out there.
