Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Collier-Butler Funeral Home Chapel for Dixie Ruth Abel, Gadsden, who passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005, after an extended illness. The Rev. Joe Higginbotham and Dr. Hobert Ballow III will officiate. Burial will follow in Crestwood Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
Ms. Abel was a native of DeKalb County and resided in Gadsden most of her adult life. She was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. She was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church and the Upper Room Circle. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Samuel and Lilly Mae Igou Abel; brother, Frank Abel; and sister, Mary Emma Wilder.
She is survived by her brother, Ernest Abel, Molina, Fla.; sisters, Juanita Street, Freda Hubbard and Jamie Sue Venn, all of Gadsden; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Wilder, Brent Venn, P.D. Mynatt, Larry Mynatt, Jay Allredge and Johnny McBurnett.
The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation to caregivers Shirley Cryers, Brenda McMullins and Jo McMullins for the love and special care given to her during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bellevue United Methodist Church, 209 Mary Lou Circle, Gadsden, AL 35904 or your favorite charity.
