Hi Angela,
Robert is believed to have come to America with the Winthrop Fleet of 1630.For more information on him, see Robert Charles Anderson, The Great Migration Begins, (NEHGS, boston, 1995) pages 4-6.
In case you missed the earlier post, Robert is of royal descent (his wife's name is Joanna ______ by the way) and his ancestry goes back as far as can be traced.He is, for example, the 29th and 30th great-grandson of Charlemagne the Great many times over.His ancestry is described in the following sources:
Neil D. Thompson, "Abell-Cotton-Mainwaring: Maternal Ancestry of Robert Abell of Weymouth and Rehoboth, Mass.," The Genealogist, Vol 5, Issue 2;
Frederick Lewis Weis, Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists, (Genealogical Publishing Co., Baltimore, MD, 7th Ed, 1999), page 62, Line 56A-44;
Gary Boyd Roberts, Royal Descents of 500 Immigrants, (Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, 1993) page 226; and
David Faris, Plantagenet Ancestry of 17th Century Colonists, (English Ancestry Series, Volume 1, 2nd Ed., New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1999), page 2.
Let me know if you have any questions...
Your cousin,
Roger
