Bob, Yes, Martha J. Swigler was a widow when she married James Abercrombie in 1869 in Tallapoosa Co, AL.They lived in Chambers County, however. She had a 12 year old daughter when she and James married most likely the dau of Swigler.I did not know her maiden name until you said it was Herrin.Thank you for the names of the two children you have of the 2nd marriage.Charlie Frank Abercrombie, b. 1874 b. AL and Mattie Abercrombie b. AL., date of birth unknown?
I have no idea why these children are not on the 1880 Census in Chambers County, AL.Did you go in on ancestry.com to get the Census Rpt of 1880, Chambers County? It is suprising that you found it on Beat 4, as they did not list a Beat 4 when I was on it.They had a Beat 3 and skipped to Beat 5 and on to other Beats.I had found him on Beat 4 on the 1870 Census so thought he might be there again.I will try again, so thank you for the pg. and twp.I know of no other children born to James and Martha Abercrombie, but I did not know of these two until you mentioned them.
So far as James Abercrombie ( b. abt 1843 in Fayette, GA., died 1871 according to your records) to James and Sarah (the first marriage), all I know about him is he married Lucretia Hughey in Marion County, AL.(Courtesy of Jim.) I think they may have lived in Marion County also, but you may already know this.I do not know anything about his children. If "Jim" comes on this site again, he might be able to tell you.I appreciate the information you have given me. Thank You. Colleen
