We visited Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Salem, Oconee County, SC today, and found grave stones with the following inscriptions:
(These inscriptions were on the same stone} J. H. AbercrombieEmley Abercrombie born Sept. 1, 1821born May 2, 1833 died Jan. 13, 1912died Jan. 13, 1918
(The stones listed below were contained within the same coping as John Harris & Emley Abercrombie's stone)
Wilson William BeattieFlorence Ragsdale Feb 23 1883Feb 6 1892 Jan 11 1966Nov 22 1974
Ann Day wife of J. H. Abercrombie 18401918
We also found the graves of these 2 children, not within the coping mentioned above: Abercrombie Agnes L.Jefferson C. Dec 11 1931Feb 23 1922 Sept 13 1934May 14 1924
I obviously had some dates incorrect and had mis-spelled Emley's name in my previous posting. The deaths of Emley and Ann Day Abercrombie coincides with the year of theterrible 1918 influenza outbreak. They may possibly have been victims of it.
I don't know how the Wilsons fit in, or who the Abercrombie children belonged to, but Ann Day was the wife of John Harris Abercrombie, Jr.
I am still searching for the burial location of John Harris Abercrombie's 1st wife, Mahalia McMahan, reportedly buried in Laurens County, SC. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
