I grew up going to funerals at Burleson. While grown-ups visited we kids read tombstones and looked for rock markers that we had been told were the 1st burials after William came to Grayson co - notably an old slave and an old Indian "friend of the family".
It seems that I remember a stone with William's name on it next to the one I copied in 1989 [I don't recall broken or missing pieces then] that says : Rebecca Burleson born Oct 1 1795died Sep 5 1861.
I didn't find William's. Cows did a lot of damage before it was fenced and I remember grave markers outside of the now fenced area.
I have found landand census records that list Wm's wife as Sarah. I know the Nelsons - my g aunt married one and my 10th grade biology teacher [Homer Gentry - wish I knew where his papers are!] who got me interested in my true family history was descended from Nelsons.
I don't recall any of the info in the 2 Grayson co history books I have saying anything about a 2nd wife for Wm. I'll check the Nelson contributions when I pull them out this winter.
Do you have the entire transcript from the Sherman Library?
Thank you for your input;
Carol
