I am searcing for any information on my Abernethy/Abernathy line. From the Asheville, NC area. Also, kin around Happy Home, Catawba, Lincolnton, Hickory, Gaston and Burke -- from the bits of info I have found thru my aunt (via my mother).
My father is Gerald Lee Abernathy, born in Lenior,NC.
The line that I know, goes back as follows:
Ivey Lee Abernathy -- Married Virgie Ann Honeycutt
Their children -- Doris, Mary, Margaret Loeta, Mildred, Edward Arnold, Gerald Lee, Jack, and one brother who dies in his teens (from lung disease).
Benjamin Abernethy -- 1) Mary Anne Leota (Leoda) Ferguson
2) Lilly Ferguson
(yes, they were sisters...)
He made his adult home in Asheville, Buncombe County, NC
-- His siblings include: Harley Grant Abernethy, R. L. Abernethy, Eric Abernethy, Nona Abernethy (sister), and one or more other siblings.
Benjamin died in 1966. He was a musician who played barn dances in his youth, so I have heard.
Ivey Lee died in the 1980's.
(Ivey) Lee was a traveling salesman, who also worked the flea markets in Asheville's tobacco warehouse, during the off-season for tobacco.
Gerald (my Dad) lives in Alabama, as do I. We have had a falling out about 10 years ago...but I do have contact with his sister -- who still lives in the Asheville, NC area.
One other note, my granny Abernathy said of Ivey, he was a towhead (blonde)...all of the Abernathys were towheads."
She and Ivey married when she was 16, and he was 22 -- according to records I have found online.
Does any of this sound familiar?
I am searching for Benjamin's parents' names, and any details about them.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
I am still writing/calling my aunt in NC; but she has not written/sent me any new information on the Abernathy/Abernethy line yet.
When she does, I will post what I find...it could help someone else on this forum.

PS:
This search is daunting -- the 1880s census information I found this weekend says there were:
384 ABERNATHYs in the NC census data
and
314 ABERNETHYs in the NC census data
