Elizabeth, Can you tell me which Robert Abernathy married Rosy Huskin?
Not yet. All I have on her is the marriage information and some data on two of her alleged children, and I have all too many dangling Abernathy/Abernethys in my database. I have no knowledge at this time regarding her probable parentage. Because the source for her given name being Elizabeth is, in the view of several currently active researchers, questionable at best, I cannot even vouch for that.
It is possible that the Robert in question was the one found on the 1840 Lincoln County Census, Lower Regiment, p. 120, with wife, 2 daughters and 4 sons. John Wilford Abernathy is found on the next page. Alas, neither that Robert nor his wife can definitively be linked to anyone on the 1850 census. They were both shown as born between 1790 and 1800, which generally fits with a marriage date in 1817. But I already had problems with that family in that the supposed eldest daughter was born (according to cemetery records) on 4 Apr 1817 yet the parents' marriage did not occur until 17 Nov 1817.
That discrepency leads me to deduce that the Mary Ann (Polly) Abernathy who married John Horace Harwell in Feb of 1839 was a daughter of some other (as yet unidentified) Abernathy couple, despite the evidence of the assertations of Rozella Abernathy.
By the by, Robert signed the marriage bond with an X, which might cause one to assume that he was not amongst the more educated class of citizens at the time. For what that's worth.
