I just want to be perfectly clear on these tax lists. The Abernathys in each year were all living in he same household which means the Abernathys on the 1752, 1753, 1754, 1755 and 1757 Granvile County, North Carolina tax lists all lived in the same house or home. It meant the same thing in 1757 that it does now in the year 2012. A man, woman and children living in the same house with the same surname - in this case "Abernathy" - means they are a famiy. A father, a mother and their children and in some cases an older generation might be living with them. See messages #3393 and #3396 on this Abernathy message board. The people in these tax lists are males over 14 years old whom they considered taxable and also ready for the military unlike today's census which names everyone in the home.
