My ancestor, Pvt. Paul Abney has been listed as son of Dr. Abraham as well as other possible sons of Dannett Abney or of Paul's lost son of John???Or something similar. (I am unsure on order or significance or meaning of this theoryor other possibilities). This is a very confusing mystery to a geneology novice.I know through oral tradition, my grandparents always mentioned Dannett Abney and Paul Abney as the first Abney ancestors in America, from England, and Pvt Paul and Rhoda Abney but I never understood if we were decended from Paul or Dannett or who was the father/ grandfather of Pvt Paul Abney.
unfortunately my grandparents are deceased now and this link in the orally told herritage was lost.My research has found that when Pvt Paul (Abner)Abney met and married Rhoda (Norman) Abney and had a blacksmith shop in Greenville Co. South Carolina.Paul reportedly reared the infant son of his brother, Nathaniel Abney, who was also named Nathaniel, after the death of his mother, Lucy Norell Abney, in 1792.This brother Nathaniel Abney was the son of Dr. Abraham Abney, (I believe). The son (Nathaniel Jr.) reportedly joined Pvt Paul's widow Rhoda (Norman) Abney and her children in Saline County Illinois, about 1858 after the death of his wife, due to this close relationship.
To add further confusion to the theories, Pvt Paul was listied as Virginia Revolutionary war soldier and incorrectly labeled Pvt Paul Abner. This issue was corrected with her family bible and application for a Revoloutionary war widdows pension.
Please help me untangle this confusing question of the parentage of pvt Paul Abney who married Rhoda Norman Abney.I would appreciate the most current or collective concensus from Pvt Paul Abney, Born in Virginia died in Tennessee, tracing his parentage back to Danett or Paul Abney and Mary Lee (First Virginia ancestors).
