Elizabeth Malonia "Charity" Abney., 1800
First of all, To Robert Abney, as a Floridian welcome, where in Fl. have you moved?
Second, has anyone come up with any more on Charity Abney, b. ca. 1800 SC that married Absalom Dean, b.ca. 1800 SC.I can't find anything on them at all, that proves conclusively who either of their parents were.
Just about everyone that is researching this family insists that "Charity" Abney was not her name that Elizabeth Molonia Abney was, and that Charity might have been a nickname. My great-grandmother Charity M. Dean, daughter of Jefferson Dean, son of Absalom Dean and Elizabeth Malonia "Charity" Abney Dean that married William R. Peyton was named after Jefferson's mother from what I have been told all my life, and that the Deans & Abneys were of French descent.
Well, my questions are, is it possible that Charity Abney b. about 1785, that most people have married to Absalom Dean b. 1800, (which I know isn't the case) marry the Absalom Dean that was granted land in SC 1793 and 1794, for Rev War Service. He was granted the land not the widow or heirs.
Was their son the younger Absalom Dean that married Elizabeth Malonia Abney, or was she an Abney?Did the older Absalom Dean die when younger Absalom was small, is his widow one of the female Deans on the census, or was he raised possibly by the Abneys also?
If the older Charity Abney married the older Absalom Dean that could account for the grandson, that stated in a letter that his Grandmother Charity Abney Dean was the daughter of an English Doctor. She could have been his great-grandmother instead.
Any thoughts on this therory?
