Paul Abney, baptised in 1699, married and had a son whose name has been given as William, although this has not been established to the satisfaction of all. This son had a family of two sons and three daughters, all of whom married in Amherst Co Va. in the late 1700's.The two sons are given below; they both moved to the part of Clark Co that became Estill Co. Ky.
1. Pvt William Abney was born on 12 Aug 1757 in Albemarle Parish, Surrey Co. Va., an area which later became Amherst Co Va.He served in the Revolution as a private soldier in the 14th Va Regiment; his rifle is still in the hands of descendants and he received a RW pension. He married first Amelia Graves on 19 Dec 1785 in Amherst Co., and after her death in 1810 married second Judith, widow of Thomas Clark., on 29 July 1811 in Estill Co Ky.He had some 15 children by both wives, of whom eleven reached adulthood. He moved to Ky about 1795?He died 31 Jan 1845 in Rockcastle Co Ky.His known children are named in Genforum post 361.
John (Jonathan) Abney was born about 1774 in Virginia, probably Amherst Co.He married Martha Puckett there on 24 April 1790.They began their family in Virginia and then moved about 1797 to Clark Co Ky., settling in a part that later became Estill Co.He died there in 1838.His wife died in _____.Their children:

i. Joshua Abney, b. 20 Jan 1805 in Ky., probably the man who md Sarah Griggs 25 Jan 1825 in Estill Co, although this could have been a cousin. One source says he md Nancy McIntosh.
j. Decia (Dasha) Abney, b. 1807 Ky, marr William Wiseman on 1 Oct 1829 in Estill Co., Ky.
The above is from the Abney pages on Genforum, the Estill Co Ky webpage at www.usgenweb.org (see 29 Aug 2000 post by M Pawlik), IGI, and similar secondary sources, so is subject to verification. This should give a basic idea of the Abney line. Some details conflict and I have chosen what seems to be the most likely story. The best source of information on this family is the online "Centralized Abney Archives", by R R Abney.See genforum posts for the link.It is claimed by some Abneys that their line can be traced back to the time of Charlemagne.
