European Roots
Through one of the coat of arms services that are available online, I have ordered a history of the Abolt surname. What I have found is that the historic origins of the family are in Brandenburg, Germany. Some time after that, the Abolts moved to Franconia (from where my ancestors emigrated).Although I tend to be sceptical of the coat of arms services in general, the fact that there is a reference to Franconia fosters somewhat of a sense of confidence.
The genealogy scroll lists several variations of the name and the below list includes what I can add from other research. In total, this names are:Abolt, Abolte, Boltt, Aboltte, Boldt, Aboldte, Bollte, Bolt, Abollt, Aboult, and possibly Abouldt. As yet, I cannot draw any connections to the Aboltin family.
Included was a mention that someone in the family was elevated to the nobility of the Holy Roman Empire in 1796.It then made a specific reference to Carl Gottfried von Bolte, a calvary officer who owned an estate in Pomerania. This information seems largely irrelevant to me because Pomerania is far away from where my ancestors had been living.
The other information that is included seems to pertain exclusively to the Bolte family.I'm not including this now because the history mentioned is greatly distanced from the Abolt family. If anyone would like to more, send me an e-mail at [email protected]'ll try and help.
