There was an Acevedo aboard the Santa Maria the during first voyage of Columbus in 1492.
His name was Pedro de Acevedo.
The Acevedo, also Acebedo and Azevedo names mean ‘holly grove’, from azevo ‘holly’ + -edo ‘plantation’.
The name Acevedo originated in the North West corner, the panhandle, of Spain, very near what is now the Portuguese border, in the province of Galicia, near Orense or Pontevedra.
At a web page called: www.pueblos-espana.org
I found village called Acevedo.
