I am descended from John Acheson and Catherine Clark, both born about 1710 in Northern Ireland. They immigrated to Little Britain, Lancaster County, PA, about 1735.
Alexander Acheson, son of Sir Arthur Acheson, immigrated from County Armagh, Northern Ireland, sometime before the Revolutionary War and also settled in Lancaster County, PA. Alexander was the grandfather of Sen. David Rice Atchison of Missouri, who is known in the history of the US as "President for a day." (That story appears in the ATCHISON forum.)
Due to the coincidence of the names and places of residence of these two Acheson families, I have to wonder whether they were related. Does anyone have any information?
