Alan--thank you so VERY much for this posting.Reinhold Achterberg was my grandfather's cousin (haven't determined exactly how yet).I have an old group photo from their workplace (they were machinists), and the label stuck to the paper wrapped around it said "Reinhard Gumz, Sr., and his cousin Reinhold Achterberg".They lived in Aurora, IL, and I've found the family in the 1900 census, plus Reinhold's naturalization record, but could not locate the family later and didn't know where they had moved.I'm hoping that Reinhold's death certificate will give me some clues about my grandfather's family, which came from Kreis Belgard, Pommern, Prussia.
