Re: Achterbergs in IL

Hi Alison--would you please ask the older members of your dad's family if Herman, Sr. was related to Reinhold Achterberg of Aurora?He was my grandfather's cousin, probably related through his mother.I don't know the names of his parents.My grandfather was from the area Zarnekow/Gross Tychow, located in Kreis Belgard, Pommern, Prussia (now in Poland), but there were no Achterbergs on the LDS film where the birth of my gfather's father appears (1817), so am not certain exactly where the connection lies.There is no film for this area for the time period 1835 to maybe the mid-1860s, so I am unable to follow the family for an entire generation and have therefore been unable to determine where Reinhold fits in.

P.S. You've probably already finished your class project, but if you're interested, I can send you a copy of a page from a 1905 German world atlas which shows Pommern with all the town names in German (a modern map would have them in Polish).
