I was most interested to see this message as Mother & I have been stymied as indicated also in a followup to Bob Delaney (11Apr.'99)'s 'Acker-NJ&NY' for our
Ellen (E)Aker as another possible variant on the spelling for which I have also previously followed up in the Aker forum.
Thanks very much for these (Revolutionary) soldiers details. I do not find any obvious connection with my Tunis Eckert (Eckart in 1880 CedarFalls, IA census)(c1804 NY-1883 IA). However Staatsburg & New Paltz (German), Dutchess; Esopus & Kingston, Ulster & Cobleskill, Schoharie; and Shawangunk, Ulster are all possibilities for Tunis' orgin. I have wondered about Terrytown's Woolvert Eckert.
In relation to Cobleskill I note another of mother's allied 'Holland' Dutch Bice family lived in Dutchess & Schoharie before coming to Broome Co., NY as for our Tunis' daughter. The Bice ancestor also married a Warner descendant probably of German Werner immigrant to Dutchess (briefly) before Schoharie and eventually Broome Co.
John/Johannis Ec(h,k)ert father's family record in "High Dutch" sounds most interesting. I do not suppose that it exists and gives clues to relationships among these soldiers?
Thanks again for this information, Bill
