John Ackerman-Jefferson Twp.,Hillsdale Co., MI/ NJ
I'm looking for any info on John Ackerman, born circa 1847 in New Jersey (based on his age of 23 at the time of the 1870 Michigan census). At the time of the 1870 Michigan census, John Ackerman was living in Jefferson Twp., Hillsdale Co., Michigan and was a farmhand.
In about 1871 John Ackerman married my great aunt, Luceba "Seeb" Mulliken.John Ackerman would have been approximately 24 at the time and Aunt Seeb would have been around age 16 (if my calculations are right).John and Luceba Ackerman had at least one child, a son named Charles Ackerman, born circa 1872.
Charles Ackerman went up to northern Michigan to collect some money owed him by his maternal grandfather, Charles Mulliken.Charles Ackerman caught a freight train heading back to Hillsdale, but fell and apparently got run over by the moving train. He eventually died from his serious wounds, age about 15 or 16 or 17.
I've never known the name of Luceba Mulliken's first husband until the other night.I have called him "Mr. Ackerman" for years in my database.I was looking at the 1870 Michigan census for the umpteenth time and noticed a neighbor named John Ackerman listed as a farmhand two doors down from where Luceba/Seeb was living with her parents. She was 14 at the time of the 1870 census and he was 23.I don't know why I never noticed him before! He was hiding in plain sight!
Anyway, does anybody know ANYTHING about this man or the son, Charlie Ackerman?
