If you haven't found the information that you are seeking, you may try getting a copy of his muster rolls as they contain various types of information. One source I have, has listed an Edwin Ackerman from Colleton District in Co. H, 11th S.C. Volunteer Infantry that died at home with the measles in 1862. Another source shows an E. M. Ackerman in the 11th S.C. Infantry Sheridan's Co, but does not have his death. I suspect Co. H is the same as Sheridan's Co. If you are interested in getting these copies and need help, contact me. In the book "Cemeteries of Lower Colleton County" there is an E. M. Ackerman DoB - 14 Oct 1819, DoD - 8 Feb 1862, with inscription "Our father - Died with measles at home - gave land for cemetery" buried in the Ackerman Cemetery at Red Oak just outside of Cottageville, S.C.
