Bruche Ackerman - Bessarabia/NY 1910?
I am looking for the family of Bruche Ackerman. She was born in or around 1893 in Yedinetz (spelling varies), Bessarabia (which was part of Romania and Russia at different times), and came to America in 1910. Her sevenyounger brothers and sisters all immigrated to Brazil during the 20's and 30's. Her mother passed away and her father, Chune Ackerman, remarried and had three more children. My grandfather Shimon Ackerman was one of them. His parents and one of his younger sisters all died in a concentration camp during WWII, and the other sister survived and went to Palestine in 1946, where she lived in kibbutz Reshafim near Bet Shean the rest of her life, married to Chaim Tor. My grandfather served in the Soviet army and returned to Bessarabia, now known as Moldova, where he lived the rest of his life. I was born in Kishinev, Moldova in 1977.
My grandfather was born after Bruche immigrated and never met her. Probably my great grandfather kept in touch with her, but I don't have any info. From the Ellis Island records, I found out that Bruche joined her uncle Hersch Waisman at 614 E 11 St in New York. She was a seamstress (at least that's what she wrote), very short (4'9"), with brown eyes. I wasn't able to find any more information about her (married? children? name change?) and her uncle must be from her mother's side. I don't know anything about the Waisman family. The name might have been misspelled in the INS files. The building where he lived no longer exists...
