Mary Ackerman Mahon obit submitted
"Mary R. Mahon was born on July 12, 1932 in Slayton, Minnesota to Clarence and Lillie Johansen Ackerman.She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Slayton High School in 1950.On November 8, 1950 she and William Mahon were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie.Following their marriage they made their home in the Slayton area.Mary worked for many years at Super Value in Slayton.In 1988 Mary started working in the cafeteria for the Slayton School.Bill passed away on February 28, 1990.Mary retired from Murray County Central School in July of 2003 due to illness.Mary passed away on August 6, 2006 at the Our House Hospice Home in Slayton at the age of 74.She was a member of St. Ann's Church in Slayton.Mary also was a member of the Iona VFW Auxiliary.She enjoyed bowling and was on a team for many years.Mary also enjoyed quilting, spending time with her family and happy hour with friends.
Survivors include three sons and one daughter and their spouses:Edward and Karla Mahon of Slayton, MN, Judy and Dan Fitzgerald of Adrian, MN, Joe and Ruth Mahon of Wichita Falls, TX and Jeff and Dannette Mahon of Iona, MN, 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren, three brothers, Daniel and Evelyn Ackerman of Tracy, MN, Robert and Leone Ackerman of Lake Wilson, MN, and David and Carol Ackerman of Slayton, MN, four sisters; Darlene Schmidt of Tracy, MN, Dora and Leon Pommier of Currie, MN, Lois and Marvin Ferguson of Lake Wilson, MN and Diane and Dwight Smith of Hastings, MN.She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill, granddaughter, Nicky Mahon, and one sister, Betty Bjornebo.
Memorial services were held at St. Ann's Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Arens officiating.The organist was Judy Andrews.Special music was by Penny Platt and Pam Ford.The honorary pallbearers were all her grandchildren, kristel Nelson, Chad Fitzgerald, Dani Rossa, Michelle Mahon, Micheal Mahon, Jessica Kroger, Dustin Mahon, Coby Mahon, Tabitha Mahon, Joe Hollander, and Amanda Hollander.Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN."
