I find your notation on Louis Daltroff very interesting. I would be interested to know more about him and his wife's parents (William Ackerman/Julia Goldsmith) because Louis Daltroff is a minor character in a novel I am writing and almost finished with about Jake Ackerman of Memphis, TN. Jake was murdered by his wife in Memphis on 30 Apr 1890, and Louis Daltroff, a childhood friend of Jake's, assisted in his burial in the old Jewish Cemetery (now called Temple Israel Cemetery) on Old Hernando Rd. in Memphis, TN.
In effect the Ackermans in Memphis were (from about 1865)--
Emanuel Louis or Lewis (married to a Sarah) Wolf (and their children not listed here, but I have names of) and a few others by Ackerman name in Memphis then--all related. ___________________________________________________________
Louis died about 1871 Emanuel in yellow fever of 1873 Wolf - ?
For others in Memphis in 1867/68, see the link below.
Were in the tobacco business in Memphis. Louis was out of Little Rock (immigrated to the US from Rheinprussia, Germany in 1848--PA area first, then came South before 1860)- all the Ackermans in Memphis in this family were from Rheinprussia (Cologne/Koblenz area of Germany now).
The Ackerman family out of Chattanooga, TN (around 1900-1910) was before that out of Memphis, TN and earlier out of Little Rock, AR. I am interested in Mr. Jacob H. Ackerman's history (b. 1852 - d. 1890), most of which I have from various old newspaper and US Census sources available to the public (via ancestry.com, newspaperarchive.com, chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/, etc), and I was interested to know if anyone in the present day Ackerman family knows anything specific (or general) about him. Jacob H. Ackerman was born about 1852 in PA and was murdered in Memphis, TN on Apr 30, 1890. He was shot and killed in a Memphis courtroom (literally) by his wife, Elizabeth Broderick.
Jacob's father was Louis Ackerman, from Germany, immigrated to the US in 1848 (b. about 1819/20 - d. about 1871/72, Memphis, TN). His wife was Sarah Ackerman, born about 1827/8 in Germany (Prussia) and died in Chattanooga, TN on Nov 7, 1910. Leopold Ackerman was Jacob's younger brother, born about 1853 in PA and died Dec 29, 1910 (in Chattanooga, TN). Descendants of Leopold are Newman Leo Ackerman (b. about 1892, d. 1977) and Leo Ackerman (b. c. 1900 - d. 1975). Mrs. Gail Ackerman Spiegelman is the daughter of Mr. Leo Ackerman per his obituary in the "Miami News" on Sept 23, 1975.
Specifically, I am (#1) looking for a PHOTO of Jacob H. Ackerman if one is available anywhere. Also (#2) my question is whether there are any stories, knowledge or family accounts of Jacob H. Ackerman (1852-1890) that anyone in your family remembers or knows today.
Jacob was a rather notorious person in the Old West and was well known around Memphis (TN), Omaha (NE), Des Moines (IA), Atchison (KS), and other places up and down the Mississippi River Valley from New Orleans, LA to St. Paul, MN. I nearly have Jacob Ackerman's entire history (all of which involves his criminal history as one of the most well known bandits in the Old Mid-West).
Jacob H. Ackerman had no children himself that I know of or have found records of. His story is pretty incredible regarding what I've pieced together through some very painstaking research about him over the last 25 years.
