Not really looking for anyone in particular - just trying to find more info about mom's (Nancy Ackiss') side of the family.
I'm particularly interested in John Ackiss (Sheriff, Vestryman, Burgess, Committee of Safety, Lt Colonel - PA County Militia, PA County Delegate to VA House of Delegates, Trustee of Kempsvile, etc) and the John Ackiss killed in the Skirmish or Kemp's Landing.
I descend from John through his son Thomas, his son Caleb Lamont, his son John Betts, his son Oscar Caleb and his son Henry Clay - my grandfather.I have not been able to determine another John Ackiss who would have been at the right age to have militia service at Kemp's Landing other than the afore mentioned John (who had the Militia rank of Captain at the time.)
John's son Jonathan was too young - and he latter served in the War of 1812.John had an uncle John (Francis' brother), but I believe he would have been too old for the militia, and I am not positive of his date of deathI'm not sure if he was older or younger than Francis.
If you have and info that shed's light on this, I would be grateful.
PS - Uncle Tom told me there's a photo of John Bett's Ackiss in his uniform floating around.Do you have a digital copy of this?
