Re: Ackiss- Virginia to Georgia Connection
My research shows William Harrison (born 1842) was the third son of Caleb Lamont Ackiss and his first wife Lovey Fisher.Caleb married four times (Lovey Fisher, Margaret Ann Cox, Mary Frances Brock and Mary Jane Morris).William's siblings are Margaret (b 1832), John Betts (1834-1880), Sarah (b 1837), Carey (b. 1839).I descend from John Betts.
Both William and John served in the CSA.John was a calvary private in Co. A of the 15th Virginia and William served as a courrier/aide.I need to review my documents for specifics regarding William's service.I have documents showing William and John enlisting on 20 April 1961 in the CSA following Virginia's secession three days prior. Both were serving during the Virginia-Monitor Battle and the fall of Norfolk.I believe William served longer than John (poor health and death of his first wife led him to not re-enlist) and saw more action as a result.Unfortunately, I do not know specific battles he fought in.John became Commissioner of the Revenue for Princess Anne County following the war.
Caleb, John Betts and John's wife Virginia Washington Whitehead are burried in the Ackiss family cemetary in Back Bay/Creeds, Virginia Beach.I am unaware where William is intered.
I would be interested in seeing any further info you have.
