Wartime family disappearance
I found the spelling of my surname to be unusual. Expecting to find that it had changed and I was actually an Ackland or Acland, or something else entirely, I have been able to go back 4 generations without a change. Not a lot I know but all records seem to vanish at this point. It seems strange to me that I should get back this far without a name change and therefore was wondering if anyone has any information about the Acklan family in the London area in the 1880's.
MY Great-great grandfather was Robert Acklan. He married Rebecca Ebdon in Battersea. He cannot be traced in any records of being born, married or dying. I only found him through the Commonwealth War Graves Commision where Rebecca is listed as his widow.
