Re: Spelling variation? Acklan, Ackland?
My husband has a book tracing the Acland family from its' origins. The book is titlaed "The Devon Family" and written by Ann Acland. It traces the history back to the 1100's. In it is an indication that of 3 sons (way back!), 1 became a "black sheep", not inheriting from his father, and started a new life by adding a "k" to his name.
It's well worth a read and may answer some of the questions about the "K"!!
