Re: Um.. Are you guys family???
Dear Judy (and David),
I was reading your responses on geneology.com. You seem to know a lot about the Raleigh County and Wyoming County Acords.
My father, Tommy Keith Acord, is one of nine children from Bolt, in Raleigh County. He is the son of Harless Acord (born around 1916 died 1970 in the mines), and Alberta Bernice Bailey (still alive). Harl had twin brothers, Glen and Roger, as well as 10 other siblings. Harl's mother was named Flossy, and I don't know his fathers name for sure but it may have been John. Flossy had 13 children in all.
Alberta Bernice Bailey was the daughter of Nancy Mae Snuffer and some male Bailey (Lawrence? Cornelius?Clarence?). They have lived in Bolt for as long as anyone remembers, and that is pretty much all I know.
My mother is a Wyoming County Acord. She is Marilyn Ginette Vaught, daughter of Lottie Marie Acord and Darrell Vaught, of Ravencliff. Lottie was one of eight born 1923 died 2000. Her parents were Noah Abraham Acord and some female Cook who died at an early age from Leukemia....Lottie was the oldest girl so I guess her mother must have died around 1939 or so. Lottie's mother's brother was named Thomas Dewey Cook, if that helps.
Anyway, we must be cousins. I was born in Cleveland Ohio, but live in Northern California now. Anything else you can tell me about the Acords any further back than this......for example, when exactly did the first Acord come to America.........and why? Is everyone with this spelling of the name related to the first American Acord?
Thanks very much,
Angela D. Acord
