Acton clan - North-West England/Ireland
Hi, I'm in the UK, tracing Actons back as far as 1841 when my gx2 grandfather, John Acton was born, son of an unmarried mother, Martha Acton in the parish of Blackrod, near Wigan. My father's cousin tells us that according to his dad the family came over originally from County Mayo in Ireland. Most of the Actons in this area worked in the coal mines or as blacksmiths.
My great grandmother, Ellen, never married but had numerous siblings, scattered to the four winds. Any info on descendents of John Thomas (b.1868) James (b.1872) Fanny (b.1874) William (b.1879) or Robert Acton(b.1886) from the Blackrod/Aspull area would be much appreciated.
