Re: Mathew, Joseph ACTON
Hi again, Bruce.
Glad to hear that you're getting somewhere with your elusive english ancestors. It just seemed funny to me that those two names should crop up on a website when I'd been looking at them for so long. I'm not sure that I'm directly related to these two as there were a lot of Actons in the local area at the time. I think that many came in from Ireland, and one of my father's cousins suggests that the Actons in Lancashire came over from County Mayo in Ireland. He also said something that made me think of your Prize-fighting link, namely that the guys in our family were all big men, and bruisers.. they liked a fight, apparently. And the women were worse.
I was originally looking at Joseph and Mat because of Joe's daughter, whom I thought might be my great grandmother Ellen, althoughI now know that she was not. It would be nice to think that the two branches were in some way related, though.
My Actons married into the Brannin family in Aspull, Lancs. There is a tendency towards red hair, and bright blue eyes. And a definite eccentricity (some might even call it insanity *L*)
The 'Rose' part of my name is an affectation, it's my grandmother's name on my mother's side. As I write sometimes, I switch pen names from Josh Rose to Elizabeth Rose (which incorporates the names of both grandmothers) although my true surname IS Acton. :)
