I am looking for a James Acton who was most likely born in Washington County, TN around 1790...maybe as late as 1800 depending upon which census you believe.Washington County records show him marrying a Zilla (or Celia) Bayless on Aug 19, 1822.They were listed in the 1830 Wash Co census with 3 kids.By 1850, they were in the Cocke County, TN census with children Martha (23), Martin (21), Elizabeth (19), Arty (16), James M (15), twins Pricilla (or Permela) & Albert (12), and Emeline (8).A next-door neighbor, William D. (27) likely was his oldestson.
James and Elizabeth McGraft ACTON did live in Washington County, Tennessee before moving to KY.They appear to have had 3 children while living in Tennessee (maybe 1790 - 1805??).One of their children was named James S. Acton (b. 1765), but he was too old to be who I am looking for.
James S. Acton did have a son named James, but from other posts, he apparently married Margaret Stogdill.
Is this James another son of the Acton/McCraft boys...maybe Uriah???
There were no other Actons living in Washington County in 1830, except for James and Zilla. The timing of the Actons that lived in Washington County at this same time and then moved to KY is too strong of a coincidence.Especially given that there were no other Actons in Washington Co in 1830.
If anyone can shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
