Calendar of State Papers - Ireland. Index: GIBBON,Edmund, or Edmond, alias the White Knight (of Munster) pages 56, 293. Rebellion of White Knight page 299, 501. Donogh McCORMAC, son-in-law of, page 302. (Our Adair m. dau. of McCormick). Index McCormack, Donogh, - see McCarthy. or McCarty, Donnell, alias McCarty Reogh, Chief of Carbery, base son of the Earl of Clancarty (think this was changed to Clanricarty). Bearing in mind that an Adair married a McCormick/McCarty - on the index p. 400 is a claim by McCarty to the Earldom of Desmond. (Believe that this family was the original irish owners of this land) or there is another page full of index on this person - McCarty, Donogh McCormack, alias McDonogh, chieftain of Dwally, son-in-law of the White Nightpage 302. p.322 - Donnell McCarty, a bastard of the Earl of Clancarr, grieved as he said that his father allotted him no maintenance, fell into open rebellion, preyed and spoiled many and got many rogues to follow him. I think that after the rebellion FitzGerald (The Upsurper) was indeed then made Earl of Desmond. The White Knight had apparently joined forces with him when they were in rebellion. There is quite an extensive report on the rebellion and I read that one of the Earl of Kildare's relatives was killed, so the story may have been the other way round. The White Knight killed the FitzGerald.
