I am interested in the Adair/Lowery/Smith connection.
I have heard a tradition in my family that their Cherokee came in from the Smith family in Knox Co., TN.Alexander Smith married a Catherine Lowery. The Lowerys were Cherokee through an early man named Lowery. He was close to John Adair who was bondsman to Alexander Smith, JR when he married Catherine in Knox Co. 1799.There seem to be other female Lowerys.Maybe Catherine was of this family. It will take more research. It was said that she could not speak English..was German. This might be true, I believe. Also, I have always wondered if Alexander may have been what we call Black Dutch of the ones who settled PA early. As you probably know, the Black Dutch were not Dutch people at all but were from South Germany ,from Deutschland.I understand that these Germans were descended from the native folks in Germany, and were not Arian race. Alexander's last name may have been Smidt??? before VA??Our Smiths were big boned tall folks for the most part, and very dark hair and eyes.
Thanks in advance for any information on this family!!
