Please refer Trinity College Dublin register book of students, "Alumni Dublinenses, 1593-1846"ed. by G.D. Burtchaell, and Thomas Ulick Sadleir, 1944.Sadleir was the historian who made the statement to the effect that Robin Adair was related to the "Hollybrook", co. Wicklow, Adair family.
In the register there is an entry - ADAIR, John, Pen. (Dr.Hill, Dublin) Mar. 26, 1664 aged 17; son of Andrew, b. co. Down.
This means that he had been educated up to when he entered the college in 1664 by Dr. Hill, Dublin.
I believe John's father may have been Capt. Andrew Adair bc 1618, son of Bishop Archibald Adair when he was at that stage dean of Raphoe (d. Bristol 1647).
Therefore, John Adair bc 1647 may have been brother of Charles Adair bc 1645-8, who m. Eleanor Cooke.
Charles and Eleanor had sons Colonel Robert Adair 1670-1737 (may have been in Battle of Boyne 1690)and John Adair c.1672-after1737.
It appears that Andrew Adair's sons Charles and John were born co. Down.
Capt. Andrew Adair was listed in O'Hart's book as being one of the 49'ers, I take it that it may have been that he was an officer who served in the army of 1649 who was owed money by the government for his services. They were apparently paid by land grants in Ireland.
Seeking information on descendants of this John Adair b c1644 co. Down.Did he go to America or have American descendants ?
