This ties in with the statement in the Topigraphical Dictionary of Ireland c.1836 on Carrickfergus which states on page 274 that in 1782 William Adair of Westminster bequeathed two thousand pounds in trust to the Adairs, proprietors of the Ballymena estate the interest on which was for the poor of this parish. This William Adair, I believe, was the person who may have first purchased the Flixton estate and died unm. and may have bequeathed the estate to his nephew Alexander, who then bequeated it to the "elder branch" of the Adair family of Ballymena. He apparently worked for the Duke of Richmond. There was a natural daughter, Jane Smith Adair, whom I think married a Bryce. Any confirmation on the above appreciated.
