re: Robert Adair’s land c.1779 (From Documentary History of the American Revolution, by Gibbes, Volume 2, p. 105) “Boundary of Capt. Andrew Hamilton's Company Beginning at the mouth of the Reedy Branch, and up said branch to John Cambels; from thence to Rocky Creek, including Joseph Able, the Boggeses, Arthur Dickson and the Thomsons, north west course beginning at the mouth of Reedy Branch; from then up Long Cain (Cane) to the waggon-ford at Mathew Edward's plantation; from thence to Wm. Little's; from thence to Crocket's Old Place on John's Creek; from thence to Simon Tuckers's; from thence to Robert ADAIR's; from thence to Wm. Thomson on Cowhead; from thence to Patrick Gibson's; from thence to Edward Brannon's; from thence to the Thomson's on Rocky Creek.”
However, it may have been named Granville County, SCc.1760s when granted to Robert ODARE (however spelt) as some of the grants about that time to some of the inhabitants mentioned above also seemed to be in Granville County, SC. Will check to see if there was a name change from Granville Co to Abbeville Co.
I wonder if John ADAIR who had land about in the same area was related ? Part of his will : To son John ADAIR 224 acres on Conneross, purchased of JAMES BAIRD. Son Edward ADAIR son Thomas Benjamin Adair xxxxxxxxxx married ? Son James ADAIR -land where I now live, joining Cane Creek & John MOORE and (Capt. David ?) SLOAN. Daughter Jane (?). Son William Henry, land on RUSK's Still House Branch. Son Charles D. Adair Son Washington Adair. Son Benjamin Franklin Adair. Son John Alexander Adair land in fork between Cane Creek and Little River. Dated 4 November 1815. Proven 4 Dec. 1815. Witnesses: Samuel Boydstun, Thomas Lanier. Executors: Joseph Reid, Samuel Boydston, Capt. David Sloan.
Robert ODARE (however spelt) purchased land in the area c.1760s. Will have to check the birth dates for the elder children of John Adair (above) to estimate his age about 1760s.
