Papers of the Stewart family, Earls of Galloway (Galloway Charters) GD138/1/173Scottish Archives. 25 Jan 1587 Charter by Mariota Campbell lady of Corswell one of the two heirs of the deceased Finlay Campbell of Corswell, to her son Uchtred McDowell of Garthland, of her half of the 45 merklands of Corswell and her half of the merklands of Arie, Knokbrek, Carnbrok and Ballingaun and the mill thereof in the parish of Kirkcum (Kirkcolm ?), and also her half of the merkland of Mye in the parish of Stanykirk (Stoneykirk), and also the superiority of the merkland of Knoknane, and part of the mill thereof being part of the 10 merkland of Brouchjarg, in parish of Kirkcum (Kirkcolm); and also her half of the 15 merkland of Catbultie viz.:- 5 merkland of Ballingat, 5 merkland of Knoknarling and Dirsalloch and 5 merklands of Garlarg and Blakmark, and the superiority of the 10 merkland of Knokcreoch and Knoknaldin in the parish of Kells. To be held from the granter of the Crown, reserving liferent to the granter. With precept directed to John McDowell of Knokincrosche and Andrew Lyndesay Wit:- Hugh Campbell of Kelloch younger, Andrew Gray rector of Kells, George Campbell in Logane (Wigtownshire ?)and Gilbert McDowell in Balkar.
