Layne Logan had a message on the McBride message board :
.....has a family tree showing the sons of John McBride
are circa 1651 Rev John McBride, Thomas McBride and Robert McBride.
Rev. John McBride married Margaret Fairley.
His son circa 1687 was Rev. Robert McBride of Ballymore,
married to Miss Boyd.
Also David McBride who went to the USA. (with any Adairs ?)
Robert MacBride's children were :
1.A daughter circa 1724, Jane McBride that married John Poe.
.....Jane McBride Poe had 10 children including,
......(son) Gen David Poe, Wheel Wright, Qtr. Master, m. Elizabeth Cairnes.
......Gen. David Poe had David Poe, md to Elizabeth Arnold who were
.......the parents of Edgar Allen Poe.
2.Abt. 1726 David McBride, medical doctor,
......married to (1) Margaret Armstrong and (2) Dorcus Cuming.
3. Abt. 1728, Adm. John McBride, Admiral of the Blue, m. Ursula Folkes,
....who had John David McBride, Principal of Magdalen Hall, Oxford,
....who married Mary Radcliff.
"I (Layne Logan) have a life sketch of Capt. John McBride, 1620.
Also some on Rev. John McBride and his line on down. "
Dr. Linde Lunney wrote :
"I have written a short biography of Rev John MacBride
and another of Doctor David MacBride, his grandson,
for the forthcoming Dictionary of Irish Biography.
A 1787 French edition of MacBride's medical lectures
notes that the family were originally from Galloway in Scotland,
and that Robert MacBride's wife was a Boyd of "Hillaghie", co. Down.
This placename is unknown; I think it must be a mistake for
"Killaghy", near Donaghadee.
David MacBride's second wife was originally a Miss Evory;
he was refused permission to marry her; they both married others,
but when both their spouses died, they then married.
Their (McBride) birthplace, Ballymoney. "
Many thanks to Layne and Linde.
Has anyone further information on Alexander Adair,
son of Rev. Patrick Adair ?Thankyou.
