re: WESTMINSTER ABBEY, London England.(an Harleian Book) p.383 April 15 1752. Alexander SMALL, Esq. died the 7th : in the North Cross. "The Funeral Book says that he died in his seventy-eighth year, (bc.1674 ?) and the journals of the day describe him as formerly an eminent surgeon in York Buildings, (same as Dr. John Adair ?) Westminster, Gent., to whom he bequeathed his manors of Clifton and Hardmeade, co. Bucks (England) and his real and personal estate generally, in trust for the purposes of his will.
To his wife Martha he gave the use of his house, etc., at *CHELSEA, and 600 pounds per annum, which was to be reduced to 200 pounds if she married again.
Other considerable bequests were : to his daughters, Mary ADAIR (mc.1738 ?) and Sophia CHURCHILL, his brother Thomas SMALL, his sister Agnes SMITH of Dundee and her dau. Euphania CHESHOLME, and their children.
If his son Alexander SMALL, then not twelve years of age, died without issue, his estates were to revert to his dau. Sophia CHURCHILL and her issue, with the remainder to his dau. Mary ADAIR, her sons William & Alexander ADAIR (b.1739?).
Mary Small had married (c.1738 ?) Alexander Adair, Chaplain of an (East India ?) ship, who died at Bengal 1743, son of Rev. Patrick Adair of Carrickfergus, co. Antrim, N. Ireland, and brother of William Adair, Sec. for Virginia. William Adair's heir was Alexander Adair, son of Mary Small and Alexander. .............. Robin Adair who m. Lady Caroline Keppel was of CHELSEA Hospital.
Sophia Adair Howard, his dau, married 15 Sep 1792, Saint Luke, CHELSEA, to Rev. Robert Hardy. ............. Any corrections and additions welcome.Thankyou.
